Before I kick it travel can sound grim to many people. When I tell people I have a bucket list, some people think it is great. Others say it sounds like I am preparing for death. Having a bucket list is more about experiencing life than about preparing for death. More than 20 years ago, I boarded a plane for my first overseas experience to Edinburgh, Scotland, on a study abroad trip.
After three weeks of driving through Scotland and England, my life was changed forever. The world is so diverse and interesting, from the cuisine, to landscape, to the people who occupy those lands. There is beauty in that diversity, and when discovered, it makes us more open and accepting of the less familiar. Before I kick it travel is about more than travel. It is about experiences with food, culture, sports, the arts, and people. I even dabble in things I fear. Come experience the world with me!
Before I kick it travel is about getting excited about experiencing new things. Making a bucket list has helped me to learn more about myself, other people, and other places. Do all of my adventures turn out to be positive experiences? Absolutely not. But, they are all memorable. My bucket list is LONG and I will never complete it, but that is okay. Doing not only what I enjoy, but pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, is the whole point of the list.
While travel consumes a lot of my bucket list adventures. I also want to make the most of my travel experiences by enjoying the food, culture, and people. I also like to sprinkle in sports, music, and entertainment as well. Thanks for going on this journey with me!
Stone Tower Winery is one of the best and most beautiful wineries in Northern Virginia. It has great wine and a beautiful landscape.
I absolutely love to travel. When I boarded a plane for my first overseas trip in 2000, I had not considered what it meant to travel as a black woman. As a matter of fact, I did not consider it at all until years later after I had visited several countries. I was naive to think that the rest of the world would see me differently than how all races, including my own, viewed me in the United States.
Coffee in Vietnam! I was so happy to discover that that coffee in Vietnam is huge. The coffee culture is so strong, that it’s hard to walk down any busy street without running into a cafe. I guess I should not have been so surprised since the French were in Vietnam for more than 100 years.
Food tours are one thing I must do when I travel to any country for the first time and Vietnam was no exception. Food is one of the main reasons I get excited about traveling. I must admit that I love to eat. When I am at home I spend hours in the kitchen trying to recreate dishes I have tasted around the world. I particularly enjoy Asian food. So, I did a lot of research on Vietnamese cuisine before my first trip to Vietnam.
